Vision of mnemosyne systems
The vision of mnemosyne systems is to create intelligent solutions for PostgreSQL and compatible products.
Creating a stable PostgreSQL platform for high-volume traffic can be difficult.
There are a lot of factors to consider from connection management to monitoring, and where you can get all the components that you need from a single vendor.
Creating a simple backup and restore policy is easy, but when you start to consider what is required to minimize down-time it get a lot harder.
Two key factors are
- Recovery Point Objective (RPO): Maximum targeted period in which data might be lost from an IT service due to a major incident
- Recovery Time Objective (RTO): The targeted duration of time and a service level within which a business process must be restored
after a disaster (or disruption) in order to avoid unacceptable consequences associated with a break in business continuity
You would like to have both of these as close to zero as possible, since RPO of 0 means that you won’t lose data, and RTO of 0 means that your system recovers at once. However, that is easier said than done.
And, the bigger the database cluster get the more difficult it is; think terabyte (TB) and petabyte (PB) scale.
We also have to consider the human factor in this. Humans are slow and make mistakes which isn’t acceptable when you have an outage and need to recover your services fast.
We need an advanced intelligent solution which can monitor the entire system and make fast decisions based on the live and historic metric points it has available.
And, we need a solution where decisions can be made without human interaction - if so desired.
Our mission is to create a complete solution capable of these requirements, and work with the Open Source community to enhance some of the core components that we make use of.
We hope that you will join us on this journey to see where we can get with this new area of advanced intelligent data management.
